« Additional Details »

Natural Ginger » While some traces of red hair genes are common enough among Midlanders of the East, as the darker brown hairs often have a reddish tint to them, but finding entirely ginger hyurs like Mikio is a tad rarer to come by. Mikio was born with naturally bright, fire-kissed hair, which extends to his eyebrows, lashes, and rest of the body hair. There are some other typical things normal to such a genetic mutation. Such as while he tans, he can still rather easily get sunburned, and his skin has a natural reddish-orange undertone due to the pheomelanin being produced more than normal.Freckles » Despite his slightly sunkissed skin, Mikio sports an abundance of freckles on his cheeks and the bridge of his nose, the back of his hands and arms, chest, back, legs... They are just a little harder to see due to his bronzed skin, as they blend in easily. But if inspected closer, they can be noticed.

Monolids » As a rather typical trait to Eastern Midlanders, Mikio sports heavy upper lids with some puffiness to his lower lids as well. He doesn't have a double lid that folds like those of his Western hyur cousins or those Easterners with this rarer much sought out gene, and his eye shape is naturally more slanted and narrow compared to the rounder and wider eye shape the Eorzean Midlanders tend to have. This tends to make his eye squints rather vulpine looking.Dimples » When Mikio smiles, he has very visible, very noticeable dimples on both sides of his cheeks. They add personality to his wide, shit-eating grins.Tooth Gap » Adding to the above, he is missing his upper right canine tooth.Physique » Short, slender, with lean muscle, and narrow-waisted. The type that is athletic, but built more for agility and speed, than for strength and constitution. Sure, he can take a hit, but not the same way as someone more robust in size. But... you'll have to catch him first, anyway. Overall Mikio has got every ingredient for his Small Man Syndrome.

Scars » He's got a few smaller scars here and there on his body. Mostly on his knees, and the backs of his knuckles. The only bigger one is on his lower abdomen, on the right side just above his hipbone; it's round-shaped, and about the size of a thumb. Like something has pierced through there to his gut. There may or may not be more bigger scars somewhere more intimate.Blushing » Whenever he gets embarrassed, the young Midlander blushes easily. His face, ears, nape of his neck, even the top of his shoulders can easily and quickly be colored rouge. This is also the case when he drinks, he'll just... flush red. And if he's especially excited, or particularly drunk -- his whole body ends up red from head to toe.

Tattoos » As a young low-ranking yakuza that has only recently come of age, Mikio sports very few body modifications thus far. There is line art and partial coloring on his back piece for a kitsune wearing a hyur skull strapped to its head and a colorful furisode kimono, surrounded by a couple of fox fires, curling smoke, and red Eastern maple leaves caught in the wind; this piece is as of yet to be finished, but it has the artist's name clearly inked as Horiki in Ancient Hingan. It ties to another large one on his left side; an autumnal Hingan maple tree branch that extends from his hip, curves over his narrow waist and ribs, and grows all the way to the top of his shoulder. The red ink of the maple leaves are imputed with aether, sort of like foci but on his skin, which adds to Mikio's muscle magic with more stamina, speed, and strength. Whenever he uses it, the maple leaves 'burn out'. Then they need to be re-inked into his skin a couple of times a year. On his left hand's middle finger, there is a tattoo of a classic red oni mask which starts from the knuckle, with tusks and tongue hanging out, smoke trailing off its mouth down to his finger, stopping just below the fingernail. And one, easy to miss black dot that resembles a mole, on the back of his hand, near the first knuckle of his thumb; an ire-bokuro. This and his future tattoos are always done by the same artist, his Aniki, Hinata.Piercings » If you happen to see his tongue, there is a black barbell piercing through it. Left earlobe is his only immediately visible piercing while fully clothed, and he always wears a red tassel earring on it. But under the clothes... He's got a secret or two. Or three. Or four. Or five... While shirtless, it is easy enough to see the gold colored glint of double nipple barbells. Just above his navel, there is a onyx-and-brass stud of a dermal piercing. Six more in V-formation just next to his hip bones, low-enough that most of them are hidden under the waistband of pants. And below that... Well, those are the kind you find out about when your relationship is intimate enough to warrant to some degree of nudity, be it public bathing or otherwise. He doesn't mind talking about them when asked, though.

Style » Mikio is still young, and sort of 'searching for himself', so his style isn't exactly set in stone yet as he experiments. However, when you've got the moxie, you need clothes to match. He's taken a liking to Western clothing lately. Sometimes he mixes them together with Eastern clothing or just wears entirely something Hingan in style. He likes comfort, and clothing that is easy to move in, so he tends to tie his more traditional clothes laxer or 'incorrectly' to give himself more freedom of movement. For shoes, anything from geta and zori to leather stomping boots and sneakers. He often sports warm tones like oranges, reds, yellows, and browns; autumn colors are his thing. He mixes them together usually with neutral colors like blacks, whites, and greys.

Accessories » The staples that are usually pretty constant are his red tassel earring, and bandage wrappings on his hands to protect his knuckles. Whenever wearing his more traditional clothing, he accessorizes his obi with inro, netsuke, and ojime set which he was gifted for his twenty-second nameday. The ojime is an orange-painted pumpkin. The wooden inro is carved to look like an entryway to a traditional Hingan house with an open sliding door that reveals the glow of a hearth within, on both sides. The netsuke is an elaborate piece with a pile of creatures carved out of a thimble-sized mound of clay; a doe resting on her side, a slumbering fox beside her, and the coil of a snake asleep atop them both. All three pieces are connected with a sturdy scarlet cord.Pockets » Mikio is a creature of habit, and usually, the contents of his pockets are as follows; a very stylish, very expensive-looking mechanical fire-shard lighter with some old family Kamon on its side (four acorns in a circle facing each other). A simple round pewter carry-on ashtray box with a small dent on the lid and scuffs on the sides. A keyring with keys to Sultana's Breath lobby and the apartment, and house keys to Goblet housing, and Shirogane housing. A cylinder shaped carry-on pipe box carved out of zelkova wood, which houses an Eastern style cast iron pipe (kenka kiseru). A small traditional Hingan tobacco pouch of Eastern pipe tobacco called kizami. A pack of pre-rolled Lominsan cigarettes. A simple Hingan leather coin purse with mostly some "petty" change in it. A tiny wooden box with business cards in it. His personal linkpearl and linkshell. A wooden case for a pair of round, brass-rimmed glasses. A small leather-bound notepad with poetry scribbles in it, and a charcoal pen stuck in its spine. Small wooden identification plaques both for his caste status (Chōnin) and travel checkpoints, the sekisho tegata, which are required for inner country travel in Hingashi.

Weaponry » He is a fistfighter, so he often just relies on delivering a mean right hook, and a rather impolite left one. However, if he needs to bring something longer than his arm, he carries a wakizashi or two. He also has a wooden practice sword he stole from a kendo dojo as a teenager and a kanabo or two for heavy-hitter jobs. Say goodbye to your kneecaps, chucklehead. He also carries an Imperial Pre-Fall hand pistol, which he mostly takes as "life insurance" during his collection jobs or other more dangerous work.

Scent » Generally smells like the incense aroma of agarwood, green tea, cloth-softening powder, rush grass, gentle soap made with neroli oil and white tea. Gives off barely any actual body odour. May occasionally smell like fragrant but gentle kizami tobacco after he's smoked. May smell like stronger, more tar soaked Eorzean tobacco residue due to hanging around Hinata and due to his own more recent smoking habits after trying it out. May stink like booze after a particularly long night of drinking.

Pets » Mikio has two cats, both of them residing in two different estates on the most part. Bean 豆猫 is a young Hingan bobtail calico female, originally acquired by Hinata as his personal companion, from kitten. Mikio slowly warmed up to the cat, and she to him, and nowadays the cat seems to even prefer Mikio over Hinata. She stays in the Ul'dahn estate in the Goblet by the Brimming Heart, and enjoys a safe indoor domestic cat life. Meanwhile, in the Kugane estate in Shirogane, Mikio has adopted an adult La Noscean Shorthair from a Limsan pirate and brought it across the world; it's a successful mouser despite its stout, round looks, a veritable hunter. Sassomaru 殺鼠丸 is a grey, plush coated older tomcat, who lives a half outdoor and indoor life, coming and going as it pleases, hunting around the small island for small game when cat-food at home doesn't offer enough excitement. He keeps Mikio's home rodent free to earn his keep, and while less cuddly than Bean, Maru still enjoys the occasional rub of his belly while he purrs deeply like an old engine.

WARNING! » Mikio is touch averse, and his first instinct is to bite. Literally, bite. Or punch or kick. With people he's more comfortable with, his reactions tend to be a tad more subtle, and he either shakes people off, dodges like a cat not wanting to be pet, or slaps a hand away. When intoxicated, he may be more open to physical contact. So please just be aware of this as a writer, in case you want to avoid your character getting hurt or don't want an aggressive type of roleplay. This will be your only and final warning, and I will have Mikio act in character however is natural to him, and I will not compromise with that to your comfort.

Breaking the Cycle » Does a crook really have to always remain a crook? Due to a few major, fundamental life-changing events in Mikio's life as of recent, it has gotten him to think a lot to himself about his life, the direction it is in currently, and how despite how he thinks he has no choice, he does in fact actually have control of it if he simply chooses to make the choice to take control. He is teetering on the edge of self-actualization with important questions to himself, and may be influenced at the moment with whatever direction he may be taking in the future. He is currently taking a lot of interest in people who are independent earners, and do not need years of training to practice some sort of trade to make a living.Building for a New Life » Recently, through morally questionable actions which mostly include creating new fraudulent identification documents so he can own land and run a business outside his birth case, Mikio has managed to close a land deal in Shirogane, Hingashi. He is working to build something on it which is not just a house. He is looking to hire miners and botanists for building materials, architects for building, various different artisans for masonry and carpentry, and someone to build him a... very large wood heated boiler? And he seems to be willing to pay well, and doesn't care what your background is or where you come from; as long as you get there and get the job done, and don't cause him any trouble. He'll pay extra if you don't waste his time with paperwork. He won't tell on your tax collector, if you don't tell on him. Deal?

Chinpira » The low-ranking yakuza, titled as 'chinpira', tend to be young, loud, and rude. And Mikio fits the bill. If you have seen him around in Kugane, you'll remember a loud ginger causing a ruckus around the city, especially after he was old enough to be allowed to be served alcohol. Now in the West, not much has changed. Still loud, still obnoxious, still as mouthy as before, and here to make it everyone's problem. Named after his natural hair color, and a strange habit of biting people ever since growing up among his yakuza brothers and sisters, this young hyur became known as the Rabid Fox among the yakuza circles.Kyodai » Recently, Mikio has been promoted in rank from a Shatei (little brother) to a Kyodai (big brother). This makes him a chinpira no more, especially now that his debt bondage has been paid off with time, and he has joined the ranks out of his own choice instead of leaving -- not that it was much of a choice to make, either way. This means he now commands slightly more power, but also more responsibility. He tends to travel now between Hingashi and Eorzea, tending to these responsibilities, so he may be found in many places conducting business for the syndicate and its allies. You may catch him in Hingashi, Thanalan, The Black Shroud, La Noscea, and Coerthas. The area of his prowl may grow in time, as the business ventures for the syndicate open up and demand further travel.Yakuza » Both saved by and the victim of the organization as most its members are, back in Kugane, Mikio being part of the Ninkyo Dantai, Inagawa-kai branch, is a well-known secret. Even if the Sekiseigumi were to find out, he is protected by the family. It is hard to get him arrested and keep him jailed, although Mikio has sat in jail for petty public misdeeds before. But every time, the family has come to pay off his bail, so he has never spent more than a night or two in it. Now he has arrived with a few other members of Inagawa-kai to the Western shores of Eorzea. While the protection in Ul'dah isn't as effective to keep him out of trouble in the foreign land, him being part of a criminal organization isn't known at all, for now. He claims to be an Eastern tattoo artist's apprentice, which is not entirely untrue; he is currently studying and doing piercings under the said artist's supervision. Mikio just... tends to get in other things on the side.

Recent Independence » Now that he's turned twenty-five, the debt contract with Inagawa-kai has ran its course, and Mikio is his own man first time in his life. He has, however, decided to stay with the group now out of his own choice. It is the only life he knows. He doesn't have any training or trade, so this is the only way he knows how to make a living. Having to learn some things he's taken for granted until now has been a bit rough for him, and he's been feeling a little insecure in his own abilities to take care of himself and those he cares about. He's also recently come into ownership of some land and a house in Shirogane, and he's struggling to figure out all that which comes with home ownership with the help of his Aniki. He may sometimes be found trying to figure out taxes in various different areas he didn't even know he'd be taxed for before as a free man. He's wondering if this freedom really is that much different from the 12 year debt bondage he was in before. This has given him a newfound dislike of rich people, and especially rich governmental officers, and political figures who command office, or those working directly under such figures.

Son of a Prostitute » Those born native to Kugane and who run in the circles of the underground might have picked up the rumors of Mikio's origins. They aren't exactly a secret he's working hard to keep, either. They are true; Mikio was born into poverty in a 'yukaku' and to a prostitute, an 'yujyo', who was his mother for the first twelve years of his life, before selling him off to the yakuza for a better life for herself and her son than the one of a 'kagema' which he would have otherwise inevitably become in that sort of environment. While not given a choice and given to a life of servitude to Inagawa-kai for an epoch, Mikio seemed to prefer where he was in life at the time and never complained about it. And even today, he never acts like a victim, and anyone trying to belittle him or victimize him, speak ill of his mother, or any sex worker will find Mikio snarling in their face. Despite how it's been a long time, Mikio still is entirely comfortable around prostitutes and other sex workers and treats them like people instead of sex objects. In fact, he even seems to be calmer around this sort of crowd. Or at least bother to try and keep his temper better in check.Burakumin » Due to being born to a prostitute, Mikio's birth caste is the lowest of lows; an outcast. And then to make matters worse, he became part of the Ninkyo Dantai -- or as people not part of it call them, the yakuza. And no matter what he does, especially in Hingashi, he can never escape the caste. The Burakumin is formed of those who are defiled, often practicing occupations that are considered dirty. Such as prostitutes, leather tanners, executioners, undertakers, butchers, and slaughterhouse workers, and of course, known criminals like the yakuza. Guys like Mikio who were born into it are marked to fail from the start, looked down on as something filthy by higher castes. This just makes Mikio act out more; claw his way up harder with tooth and nail, fight to keep his head above the murky depths meant to drag him down, and keep him there. Sure, they all can try. But he'll never go down quietly. And he'll always walk his back straight and head high. No. Matter. What. From a Burakumin... to a Chōnin? » Anyone who knows anything about nothing, knows that the Burakumin aren't supposed to be able to ever climb out of their outcast status. So, how come this guy suddenly has the identification documents of a Chōnin, the merchant caste? They look like the real deal, signed by a temple and everything, with proper stamps and art on the plaques. But nothing but forgery here would make any damn sense. So, are they fraudulent? A government official or very well learned Hingan person might be able to figure it out with a critical eye and digging around, or if they knew Mikio's birth caste from before and his ties to the syndicate, they might be able to smell something rotten right away.

"Mikan" » Perhaps a tad strange sight to find someone with hair naturally in orange color among the Hingan natives, but-- here he is, unfortunately, with his freckles and all. Mikio, among his yakuza brothers, is often referred to as Mikan due to his hair color, but it actually started due to his origins as a son of a prostitute, and some still mock him for his origins. Mikan would be a female name, which means mandarin orange. He hates the name with the passion that burns brighter and hotter than the flames of Suzaku.

Fox Thinking Itself a Wolf » Mikio tends to act like he is larger than he actually is. He talks big, acts aggressive, tosses around curses and insults like they are never going out of style, and behaves overly macho. He tends to think acting like this makes up for his ginger genes, short height, slender frame, scrappy but cute face, and young inexperience. It just makes him near intolerable to be around. Taunting him into a fistfight is child's play, as he is intense and acts like he constantly has to prove himself, even if nobody is watching. But if you have the tolerance for his nonsense and brash, unpredictable personality, one can notice he is very straightforward, honest, easy to read, expressive, and incredibly courageous (or just stupid) to square up literally with anyone even when they might be thrice his size. And he won't discriminate if it ends up being three lalafells stacked over each other in a trench coat, either. He delivers equal rights and equal lefts with his fists.

Master of Withering Stares » While everything else of him outwardly looks pretty non-threatening, he is skilled in staring people down and making them feel judged to all hells. Due to how honest and expressive his face is, Mikio tends to have a hard time hiding how he feels. He is an open book. If you say something he thinks is stupid, ah... Hopefully, you aren't the type to get your feelings hurt too easily? Because you will know it was stupid. On a more hilarious note, this makes him absolute shit liar. And he is also quite easy to obviously fluster.

Aether Infused Tattoos » Interested in Mikio's tattoos? They are, indeed, aether infused for constitution, speed and strength! The artist himself is Hinata Sasaki, artist name Horiki, Mikio's Aniki, and the man he shares a house with at the Goblet's Brimming Heart currently. They also rent a penthouse apartment as an irezumi and pirecing parlor in the Sultana's Breath. Hinata also quite generously bought and gifted Mikio his own house back in their motherland when he was released from twelve years of debt bondage, which has since been sold forward by Mikio, and quietly invested into a different future for them.Piercer Apprentice » Currently, Mikio practices doing piercing work under his Aniki. He is also interested in other body modifications and learning about doing them, such as surgically removing pieces of the ear, splitting of tongues, inserting beads under the skin, and other body modifications such as scarification. While he lacks the honed artistic skills to become an irezumi artist like his Aniki and Sensei, Hinata, he is finding piercing and other body modifications slowly becoming sort of a passion. He was never the sort to flinch for much and finds odd, morbid satisfaction in piercing and cutting a body for aesthetic purposes. And then witnessing the healed result, and finding beauty in it. While he isn't interested in doing it as a job for the rest of his life, he is more than happy to keep it as a side hustle and a hobby, and help out Hinata whenever he needs someone to relieve some room in his appointment schedule.

Hanya Tattoo Parlor » Hinata being an irezumi artist runs also a tattoo parlor in a rented apartment in the Goblet, in a penthouse of Sultana's Breath. While a big hat like Hinata takes care of the business side of things, Mikio is in charge of keeping things clean and orderly on the side of his apprenticeship; he takes care of scheduling and other typical secretary parts of the job. And customers coming in will always find the place spotless, with gleaming waxed floors, the plants taken care of, and no dust or a spider web in sight. The atmosphere is relaxing, and Mikio often hangs about doing his thing when people are tattooed, pouring a drink or two for the pain... and providing a distraction in general. Sometimes, if the tattoo placement is intimate, he will scram either out of the entire parlor to run errands for Hinata, or by keeping to himself to offer privacy for the customer.Enthusiastic Gambler... » Mikio loves gambling. Dice, cards, mahjong... Give him a game, and he likely is more than happy to play, even if no actual money is involved. Games that require a poker face he is bad at, but tries really hard any way, and gives his all. Winning and losing is an art; it should be done gracefully. Mikio has none of that grace. He's a sore loser that barks and growls, and a vexing gloater ready to rub his win in your face the moment he gets the chance. And it's even worse when money is involved. Perhaps join him for a game or two, try your best to humble him, or let him win out of pity.

...But Terrible Gambler » Hinata tends to let Mikio win when the two play, and that tends to make Mikio think he's actually good at gambling. He is not. There is a reason why Hinata trusts only petty money for the young Fox, and supervises his gambling whenever it happens. Mikio's Aneki, Katsumi, however, is more than happy to indulge the youngest of the three Inagawa-kai in the West. But unlike Hinata-Aniki, she beats his ass and takes his money, too. This makes Mikio want to win against her, just once, one day. The three can be seen gambling their time away either with dice and cards in Quicksand over drinks, or out there in the Golden Saucer; in the latter, Mikio needs to be essentially in a tight leash the entire time, or he'll either dash off who knows where to create some kind of trouble or end up in massive gambling debts. Or both. He is always eager to find new gambling opponents to train against, you know, so he can one day wipe the floors with Katsumi and gloat. His day will come, you just wait! Any day now! Soon! Or maybe later! But it will come!

Food Aggression » Find him eating with enthusiasm in a way that it implies whatever it is, it must be really good and want him to share a bite? Sure, go on. See what happens. Fuck around and find out. (Also, you better be quick. He doesn't just eat fast, he eats FAST.)

Trouble » Mikio is a loud, obnoxious, unapologetic accident just waiting to happen. A little firecracker, cocksure and confident in all the wrong ways when he has no foothold, and with a razor-sharp tongue. He isn't afraid to say what's on his mind even if he should be, especially when it is entirely unneeded and unrequested. Or when he is in a company he shouldn't. Sometimes, he says the wrong thing at the wrong time and pisses someone off. Or that someone pisses him right off. Or both of them piss both of them off. Not a stranger to street fights, petty scraps, and bar brawls, Mikio tends to punch first, ask questions later. A disaster on feet, perhaps rubbing you the wrong way? Or you see him getting in over his head and not being smart enough of a lad to back off. He could use some help from someone wiser and more level-headed to get him out of a potential beating where odds are obviously stacked against him.

Hello, thank you for reading my Carrd for Mikio. It is definitely not the attention he needed for his already inflated ego, but thank you either way. Here's a final word from me regarding things I'd like you to know, in case I managed to pique your interest to write with me.I'm sorry that this list is kind of long, and that I have pretty strong preferences. I recognise fully I am not for everyone.

Will do:

Won't do:

  • Writing within FFXIV world's lore

  • Low-power & low-fantasy chraracters

  • Characters with or without an off-game profile

  • Characters with or without mods

  • In-game RP

  • Initiate walk-ups to you!

  • Say-chat RP

  • Party/tell RP if situation calls for it

  • Dice rolls! They're FUN!

  • Slowburn friendships & romances

  • Platonic relationships

  • Complex relationships

  • Conflict & drama RP

  • Combat if our characters are on similar power levels

  • Lose a fight, if the RNGesus says so!

  • Also just lose for fun or if it simply makes sense for the scene

  • Grim, dark, horror, crime!

  • IC consequences to IC actions

  • Down for scars and other permanent harm, as long as discussed and reasonable!

  • Casual stuff, slice-of-life, fluff

  • Long-term RP, preference

  • Short-term & one-offs are fine, though

  • Overworld RP

  • Venues and private spaces for RP

  • Good old Quicksand bar buzzing

  • Have my character humbled by either being wrong and losing an argument, or losing in a fight, or otherwise. He isn't always in the right, and when he's wrong, he can be unfortunately confidently so.

  • Have my character learn and grow from someone more mature and patient; he will ask rapid fire questions for clarification, just be prepared.

  • Awesome cultural details in character! Such as certain parts of the game's cultures having their origins in real life cultures, and expanding them in writing, like food.

  • Garleans/ex-Imperials, Ishgardian zealots, and Sharlayan scientists with questionable morals are more than welcome with heavy topics and all, as long as there isn't a weird vibe about it OOC where these ideals might actually be your ideals. Otherwise, let's go!

  • Just vibe with you OOC -- I like making friends and doing content, too!

  • Writers or characters under 18

  • Uncomfortable IC/OOC bleed

  • OOC drama

  • RP if my RP tag isn't on!

  • Lore-breaking or bending

  • Lore from other FF games or media

  • High-power & high-fantasy characters

  • Discord RP

  • Only tell/party chat RP

  • Random ERP or smut without plot

  • Fetish characters of any kind

  • A/B/O characters, zero interest in that

  • Any bigots/phobic people OOC

  • Weird glorified Garlean fascism RP, Sharlayan eugenics, or any Ishgardian RP in similar vein

  • Combat without dice rolls, random unsolicited combat without a OOC vibe check, or combat with any lore-breaking/bending characters or OP characters

  • Magic solving everything, all the time

  • Using "It's a fantasy world!" as a justification for absolutely everything being possible - I like rules. A lot. Sorry.

  • Characters that are; self-inserts, auspices/kamis/mononokes/yokais, any other small or big time gods or goddesses, primals, world reflection or time travelers, voidsent, sin eaters, nightkins, aliens, ancients or ascians, entelechies, cyborgs or robots, dragons in humanoid form, new type of Spoken or Beastmen species that aren't in lore... However, I may do exceptions here and there. Mostly by pretending these aspects aren't a thing and thus we cannot do more than surface level scenes.

  • Characters that are The WoL, or tightly tied to the Scions or other major MSQ/World characters.

  • Characters with crazy amount of mods, or added/edited lore-breaking details such as but not limited to; tails or paws/digitigrade feet on viera.

  • Characters that have the bare bones of a culture presented through the orientalist lens. Please do your research, and show respect to what you are attempting to represent.

  • Characters with elemental aspected, corrupted, light or void tainted aether, or Garlean hypertuned characters. Especially if they look entirely like normal people and are totally sane. I can ignore this at best and pretend it's not a thing for short term RP, but I find it impossible to write around something that breaks lore so fundamentally.

  • Characters with aether sight who aren't otherwise blind

  • While I am down to most negative IC consequences, I am not looking to write character death at this time.

Disclaimer!

» Mikio's views on gender norms, sexuality, and mental health is very outdated to us today, and is more based on that of someone living in Japan during the Tokugawa period. He may say some ignorant things and may struggle to understand such concepts as genderfluidity or transgenderism due to the toxic masculinity and traditional gender roles of Hingashi he was brought up with. He may, however, try to compare some things to that which he knows from back home... which is often close, but nowhere near, to what we know modernly of these topics. His views are not in correspondence with my own. To him, gender corresponds more on how one dresses and presents themselves than the physical gender, but he won't understand something like gender dysphoria, unfortunately. And sexual desire isn't part of an identity, it is simply an act, no matter between which genders.» While my Discord is available, please respect any boundaries I express having. I have no hesitation to blacklist or blocking people who start acting weird with me or do not respect a 'no', which is, by the way, a full sentence.» Crime genre as a roleplay does not translate to me as weird sex doll human trafficking or sexual assault roleplay. Just not my cup of tea. You do you, but I'm a big fan of consent, and so is my character.» If you refer to your miqo'te character as a cat/catte, viera a bun/bunny/rabbit, au ra as lizard/reptile/dragon, or your hrothgar as some sort of big cat, we are likely not compatible writers. I find this cringe as hell for many reasons.» If you hate on lalafells, I don't really care to write with you. Leave my lala homies alone and let them do their thing. Yes, even when they write smut. They and their characters are consenting adults, just small people on the cuter side, unless stated otherwise. If that makes you uncomfortable, then that really says more about you and your issues than the lalafell character writers.» Tomestones aren't smartphones. They're bulky solid-state data archives which contain information from the Allagan Empire and need to be plugged to Allag or Magitek computer for data extraction, and they're useless for the layman. Essentially, just really big USB sticks. If you want to RP them as smartphones, all the more power to you, but I will be ignoring that IC. The only device for contact my character will be using is Linkshells and Linkpearls, which comes with their limitations. No voicemail, no text messaging, no social media, no internet. You want to leave Mikio a message? Send a letter.» If you use AI to make your character art or use it to write your posts, I want nothing to do with you. Period. Shame on you.» If I need to explain to you that I am not my character and my character is not me, that I don't want anything to do with IC/OOC bleeders and what it is, or what metagaming or godmodding is, I don't think we're compatible as writers.

A page meant for breaking down the different names and their writing styles. Naturally, these aren't exactly one on one with in-game's Ancient Hingan logograms, which is the writing system that originates from Yanxia. However, they have some stuff that can essentially be interpreted in a similar way. I have the logograms in a gallery for those interested in going a bit deeper if they want to figure out how to write these names in-game. But due to these symbols not being available in the chatbox, I am more than fine with using traditional Japanese writing to replace them. I just think lore stuff and little details are neat!I use kanji mainly but also toss in sometimes hiragana and katakana on this page. ICly, I refer them to the logograms as seen in-game to their closest counterparts. My writing isn't perfect, but I do my best. If you have corrections, feel free to give them to me!

I also have some notes regarding Mikio's speech patterns marked down at the bottom of the page for those interested. It is for those who have their characters know Ancient Hingan who may take note of them, the nuances and the implications which may or may not come through from them. The way one speaks in accents and dialects can say a lot about a person what kind they are and where they come from.

Mikio 美樹夫 »
Can be read as three trees together, or a tree trunk man.
As a nickname just based on sound alone, Miki 美紀 (quick, nimble, flower stem) is a female given name, but Mikio doesn't mind this as in this case Miki 美樹 as a diminutive is the masculine writing of the name even when Otto/O 夫 is dropped from the end. Just please, do not call him Miki-chan, as that goes a little too much to the feminine side of things for his tastes. Mikio is a guy, even if a manlet, and doesn't like to be referred to as feminine or when feminine leaning suffixes are added, as they can appear disrespectful and insulting to his masculinity which he is already insecure about.Usage of the given name is usually reserved for family, friends, and lovers to express intimacy. The use of first names can be very telling about the relationship between two people. - Bi/Mi - Beauty
- Ki - Tree
- Otto/O - Husband
Sonoda 園田 »
Can read as garden rice paddy, or orchard field.
Mikio prefers strangers or acquaintances he's not yet close with to refer to him by his family name. This creates a sense of polite distance and respect. He will always return this, and often even prefers to use family names of people who aren't Eastern. Even if Mikio is a ginger goblin, he has some manners ingrained in him. - Sono - Park, Garden, Orchard
- Ta/Da - Field, Rice paddy
The Rabid Fox 猛烈な狐 »
Can read as rabid fox, or furious fox.
猛烈な - Moretsuna - Furious, Violent, Vehement, Rabid
- Kitsune - Fox
Mikan 美柑 »
A feminine name meant as an insult, meaning tangerine or mandarin orange.
Can be also written as 蜜柑 or 実柑 in kanji. In this case, it is written as 美柑 because Mikio's given name shares 美 with the name Mikan.
Can be also written with hiragana as みかん and katakana as ミカン
- Bi/Mi - Beauty
- Orenji - Orange
Mikitsune 三狐 »
Bilingual wordplay nickname. Combination of Miki 美樹 and Kitsune 狐. In this case, as 樹 'ki' or 'tree' shares the sounds with the number three in Common changes the name characters into 三 san for 'three' instead. This way, it can be read as San Kitsune, three foxes. But in Ancient Hingan, it still makes perfect sense to read it as Mikitsune.
樹 can also be read by itself as 'miki'.
Various other spelling types for Mikitsune as a name while using the 樹 ki for miki (tree) can be changed depending on which tsune character is chosen, such 樹常 (tree, ordinary), 樹恒 (tree, permanent), 樹矩 (tree, rectangular), 樹経 (tree, through). There are also other miki and tsune character combinations available for this name, such as changing the sound 'miki' into a more feminine character 幹 for stem and combining it with other 'tsune' characters. But if I list them all and break down all of them to their meaning, we'll be here all day.
- San - Three
- Kitsune - Fox
Mikicchi 美樹っち »
An affectionate nickname reserved for close friends only. Mainly only Hinata and Katsumi are allowed to use it without it being disrespectful.
These types of nicknames are built by shortening the given name and adding -cchi sound at the end as a suffix.
美樹 - Bi/Mi Ki - Beauty, Tree
っち - cchi - a suffix that doesn't mean anything in itself, but is meant to sound endearing

Mikio has very distinctive speech patterns in Ancient Hingan. These are some things one who is practiced in the language and can pick up nuances may easily take note in.

Kudaketa, Teineigo, and Keigo »
Mikio speaks very roughly as someone in caste below a peasant, a burakumin, a whorehouse raised boy whose parental guidance in formal etiquette can be found... lacking. This is why he mimics others, including the older yakuza who speak very familiarly and rudely in kudaketa. So do not expect him to speak in keigo while using Ancient Hingan. There will be no kudasais or onegaishimasus and or barely any desus used like heard in teineigo. Keigo (specifically sonkeigo) will be reserved for formal situations with yakuza superiors above his rank or showing respect to someone who earns it in a formal setting. If he absolutely has to, Mikio may switch to teineigo to show some respect to another person. Outside of formal meetings with bosses, he will use keigo only sarcastically.
Dialect and Speech Patterns »
When speaking, Mikio uses a lot of expressive buffer phrases and slang like tteba (I mean), osu/ossu (what's up), yo! (hey!), choshi do? (how are you?), mata ne! (later!/see you tomorrow), ja ne (bye), ippai do? (how about a cup/one more drink?), se yaro (it is, isn't it?, I know, right?, innit?), Honde? (And then?), honma/maji (really/real/honestly), meccha (very), akan/yabe/yaba (Oh no!/That's wicked!/That's awesome!/Expressing something is bad), and so forth.
He also uses a lot of different Aizuchi when listening, and plenty of expressive sounds to draw out sentences and express himself, like 'ah/ahh', 'eh/eeehhhh', and 'ne?' sometimes at the end of a question or the beginning of it to get someone's attention that a question is coming up he'd like an answer for.Mikio's dialect is also closest to what we know as Kansai-ben, and when he gets angry, his speech can be very aggressive with harsh rolling R's. The general disposition of those who speak other dialects, that they tend to review Kansai-ben as aggressive and rude sounding. One of the biggest tells of Kansai-ben is that the negative nai ない is replaced with hen へん.Ore 俺 and Watashi 私 »
Mikio refers to himself as ore, which is a rough or arrogant-sounding first-person pronoun. Sometimes used by men and adolescent boys when not speaking in keigo, and used among friends, family, or peers. Very commonly used by the men of yakuza when referring to oneself.
Anyone speaking Ancient Hingan would take a note of this and might find this haughty or rude.
Mikio will opt to watashi 私 usually only when speaking to direct yakuza bosses, superiors he wishes to show respect, or when he otherwise speaks keigo for reason or another... but often mockingly and with heavy sarcasm. Or when he is pretending to speak the dialogue of a woman, as women are expected to use 私 watatshi only.
There are also other ways to refer to oneself in first-person, but these two are what Mikio mainly uses.
- Ore - I, me, myself
- Watashi - I, me, myself
Honorifics »
Mikio uses a lot of honorifics out of habit, but just like his usual speech, they tend to be rough, casual, ones that should be by all sense to be reserved for people close to you, or they can be perceived as rude by those speaking in keigo or teineigo. And yet, here we are. I am sorry for this gremlin.
Niisan, Ani, Aniki - For males - Different ways to say 'older brother'. Often used by yakuza. The formal would 'Onii-san'.
Neesan, Ane, Aneki - For females - Different ways to say 'older sister'. Often used by yakuza. The formal would 'Onee-san'.
Oyabun - Yakuza boss - Uses this for the leader of Inagawa-kai. Literal meaning 'parent status'.
Anesan - Boss's wife/Otherwise high ranking and respectable female - For women who have gained Mikio's respect in the underworld, and often run their own businesses without the need of answering to a man, ie. some seriously badass ladies get called this.
Ossan - Uncle - A rough, impolite, and casual term that can be used for older males in their 40s and 50s. The formal term would be Ojisan. Mikio will usually use this to call you indirectly old.
Obahan - Aunty - A rough, impolite, and casual term that can be used for older females in their 40's and 50's. The formal term would be Obasan. Mikio will usually use this to call you indirectly old.
Jiisan - Grandfather - A rough, impolite, and casual term that can be used to refer to a male in their 60s and older. The formal term would be Ojiisan. Mikio will usually use this to call you indirectly REALLY old. By this point, a smack upside the head is entirely deserved.
Baasan - Grandmother - A rough, impolite, and casual term that can be used to refer to a female in their 60s and older. The formal term would be Obaasan. Mikio will usually use this to call you indirectly REALLY old. By this point, a smack upside the head is entirely deserved.
Okan - Mother - He refers to his birth mother as this in his dialect, who he hasn't really seen since twelve summers old, but still speaks fondly of anyway. The formal term would be Hahaoya or Okaasan.
Oton - Father - A term in his dialect meant for fathers. He's never had a reason to use it, so he really doesn't.
Notes:
Elders aren't expected to call younger by titles when spoken to them directly. Using a name is expected, and family often uses given names. Terms like ototo (little brother) or imoto (little sister) are used only when talking about the person, but not really addressing the person. Such terms usually imply familial connections by blood, and it rarely works to be used as a casual term.
As Mikio has never met his biological father, he never uses terms meant to address one's father. Instead, he rudely may refer to this distant, mysterious figure in Common as 'my old man'. He may also refer to someone else's father as 'your old man', because the familial terms like 'father' in Ancient Hingan feel foreign on his tongue due to him never really getting to use it.Suffixes »
Mikio isn't really the type to enjoy using suffixes for names, especially in the West, or while speaking in Common. But when speaking in Ancient Hingan, depending on the situation and who is speaking, he may add them. His chosen family, Katsumi and Hinata, for example, use -cchi on his nickname for endearment and -chan when they want to sort of piss him off as -chan usually has more feminine implications of endearment while -cchi is more gender-neutral. If anyone uses them while speaking in Common Tongue, don't be surprised if Mikio asks you to drop them entirely because it feels weird for him. This doesn't necessarily mean he implies you are now close. It's just sort of... cringe to him. Hits him the wrong way, you know?
-san, -kun, -chan, -dono, -sama - Changes depending on gender, status, familiarity. There are also more suffices which exist which are often tied to specific titles, but these are the most commonly used.
-cchi - Used to build nicknames by shortening names and adding this at the end without the dash. Gender-neutral. By itself doesn't mean anything, the sound of it is just supposed to be playful and endearing. Works pretty much for any diminutive Hingan and Yanxian name, no matter the gender. Only reserved to close friends, family, and lovers.

Sometimes sending a tell can be a struggle for reason or another. Often times when I try to do it, someone has already logged off or disappeared into an instance before I get to press the enter, or they are AFK and entirely miss it! The agony!
